On the Sixth Day of Gifts for Gracias . . .

For 12 days, I will be writing about the different ways people have participated in the Gifts for Gracias Project over the years. Today is the sixth day. If you are unfamiliar with Gifts for Gracias, or would like to see an overview of how it works, click here for more info.

The Sixth Day of Gifts for Gracias: Encourage others to get involved

Over the past 15 years, the Gifts for Gracias project has grown significantly. At first, we were just getting donations from personal friends and family. Gradually, more and more organizations and individuals have gotten involved, frequently because people who were already helping spread the word to others - through their churches, schools, homeschool co-ops, small groups, boy and girl scout troops, etc.

Let's say you are the person who encourages twenty more people to contribute. Imagine what a difference it makes, to the whole project, if 20 people each get 20 others involved - that comes to 400 donors!

The very simplest way to help spread the word is to simply share these blog posts on Facebook, with a note explaining why you chose to get involved with this ministry.  Another effective way is to talk with those around you, and encourage them to participate by donating their in-good-condition used items to Gifts for Gracias. Getting a church or other organization to make up gifts takes more effort, but this can be a rewarding service project for those groups, or for individuals.

A few people in various locations have volunteered a portion of their home (or a garage, shed, etc) to be used as a local collection point for donations. This, along with spreading the word in that community, results in a great deal more participation!

We'd love to have your help, in any of these ways. This year, it is still possible to organize collections in the Maryland/Northern Virginia/DC/southern Pennsylvania area, if you'd like to  in this way!

Here are some pastors picking up their gifts (from their denominational supervisor)
and carrying them off to the bus station to take them home to their families!

DEADLINES: All gifts coming to us in Florida MUST be received before September 24th! If you are mailing a package after that date please use the Maryland address! Currently, the Maryland deadline for shipping or for local deliveries is the end of October.

Tomorrow I will share MORE ways you can be involved with the Gifts for Gracias Project!!!!
